Medium
The uniting of stainless steel with concrete and glass is not unlike the
marriage of colors, shapes and light which compose our garden environments. My
creations are designed to be almost transparent as I see the sculpture and the
garden as a single entity. It is my goal to combine the elements into a
harmonious symphony of natural and fabricated forms.
Process
I approach each new creative situation as a problem to be solved. As
the vision of what I would like to create becomes clear, the sculpture
develops and challenges both my creative and logical thought processes. When I
finally stand in front of a completed sculpture I fully realize what it is
that I have been envisioning. Combining form with function, I imbue each
sculpture with a useful purpose and its own distinct visual impression .....
its life...
Background
I have been designing and creating stainless steel sculptures
since 1990. I participated in my first shows and competitions in Southern
Wisconsin and Northern Illinois. In 1999 I left the Midwest to pursue my art
full time in Palm Springs in the Coachella Valley of Southern California. I
use recycled stainless steel in ninety percent of my work. I search throughout
the Midwest and Southern California through salvage and metal recycle centers
to find perfect pieces which can be bent, cut, reshaped and surfaced to create
this unique art form. I have teamed up with a local glass artist to create
blown and cast pieces to be incorporated into many of the final designs. My
work is in numerous business and private collections throughout the United
States.
